Letter of Reference

As part of the application process, please include a one-page letter of reference as part of your completed application.  

The letter should be written by someone who knows your personality and work ethic well and should be addressed to the Junior League of Northwest Arkansas, Attention: New Member Committee.  The letter should include any information important to your potential work as a community volunteer.   The information in the letter will be confidential and used only as a tool to determine your level of interest and commitment.

New Member Commitment Expectations 

Obligation of Membership: New Members

New Member Course Obligation.  The formal curriculum includes an orientation retreat, monthly provisional training meetings, and mid-year mini-retreat in January, as well as working at League projects and fundraisers, and participation at League training events, socials and other activities.  Time commitment is estimated at 6-8 hours monthly.  Successful completion of the New Member Course curriculum is necessary to achieve membership status. 

New Member Orientation Retreat. August (dates TBD). We will kick off the New Member year together Friday evening and then continue on Saturday morning as we introduce you to the League and the curriculum to prepare you for the rest of the year ahead.

Monthly New Member Training Meetings.  The fourth Monday of each month, August through April, from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, and the mid-year mini-retreat (held in January 2021)

General Meetings.  Attendance at monthly general meetings, held the second Tuesday of each month, August through May, at varying locations throughout Northwest Arkansas.  

Fundraising Obligation. You must work 1 fundraising shift at Touch-a-Truck in May 2021. You are invited to attend the other fundraisers including Purple for A Purpose 5K and Fun Run on October 4, 2020 and/or Moonlight Masquerade in January 2021.

If this application leads to membership in the Junior League of Northwest Arkansas, I understand that false or misleading information in this application may result in my release from the organization. 

I understand by returning my completed membership application, letter of reference, and membership dues for the upcoming year, (a.) I agree to the outlined obligations of membership; (b.) I understand I must participate in the entire New Member retreat before I am considered a New Member of the Junior League of Northwest Arkansas; (c.) I understand the $92 application fee is non-refundable unless I am not accepted into the New Member class and the remainder of the $200 membership fee is due by August 31st, 2020, once I am accepted as a New Member into the Junior League of Northwest Arkansas; (d.) I certify I will be at least 21 years old on or by June 30, 2020.  I also understand the New Member course is limited in size, and the completed applications are accepted in the order the Junior League of Northwest Arkansas receives them. 

IMPORTANT: To be accepted, this application must (1) be entirely completed, (2) be accompanied by one letter of reference, (3) include payment of $92. Please email join@juniorleaguenwa.org to make sure application, letter of reference and payment have been received.
